Barrister Chimezie Obi has emerged the president-general of Obosi Development Union O.D.U in Idemili North council area, with a pledge to enthrone peace in the urban community at all costs.
In the keenly contested town union election held at the Obosi Town Hall, Barrister Obi polled 106 votes to beat his four rivals namely: Ejindu Emeka who scored 27 votes, Ichu Amalachukwu with 11, Onyebuchi Mgbemena who had 5 votes and Oluchukwu Ichu who was left with just 3 votes.
The process commenced with the accreditation of 156 delegates and candidates by the Obosi Development Union election Committee under the supervision of Anambra state government led by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr TonyCollins Nwabunwanne.
The voting conducted using the secret ballot system saw delegates from the sixteen branches of the community lining up to vote in other vacant positions including Vice President General, second, third and fourth Vice Presidents, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General and Social Secretary, Assistant Social Secretary, Provost Marshal, Publicity Secretary, Treasurer, Legal Adviser, Provost 2, Provost 3 and Auditor 2.
Addressing the gathering before the election, the Chairman of the election Committee, Sir Dan Igbokwubili revealed that all plans and arrangements are geared towards the betterment of the good people of Obosi, pointing out that all branches of the Union was allocated ten delegates each and commended the candidates for the show of love and commitment towards achieving a good and livable community.
Speaking shortly after the election the representative of Commissioner Nwabunwanne, Mr. Tony Onyekaomelu expressed joy with the quality of candidates who were on the ballot and the conduct of the election, pleading that the community continue with the zeal that led them into the election to support the newly elected executive in order for them to succeed and assured them of the state government’s support and partnership.
Reacting on the outcome of the election, the President of O.D.U Abuja branch, Ambassador Ifeanyi Obelaka praised the preparations made by the election committee which clearly reflected in mandate given by the people.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President General, Barrister Obi revealed that it is a new dawn and assured that the community will bounce back with as a development driven community in Anambra State and beyond.
The youths of the community among others joyfully accompanied the newly elected executive after their swearing in ceremony to the palace of the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Chidubem Iweka.
