Former presidential aspirant Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s government over the recent ₦1 billion upgrade to Lagos ports, accusing the administration of sidelining strategic policy and public interest.
Obi said: “How do you allocate ₦1 billion and bypass critical policy frameworks?”
He argued the funding roll-out lacked transparency and appeared disconnected from broader economic planning.
He further raised concerns that the upgrade project may primarily benefit political cronies rather than improve port efficiency for the Nigerian public. The former Anambra governor called for full disclosure of contractors, procurement terms, and performance metrics for accountability.
Obi’s remarks add to mounting pressure on Tinubu’s administration to justify large infrastructure spending amid scrutiny over fiscal discipline and governance.
