Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate tangible benefits from the administration’s recent surge in national revenues.
In a statement on X, Obi highlighted the recent increase in the Budget of Restoration to ₦54 trillion, citing increased collections from revenue-generating agencies—but pointing out what he described as a glaring omission: “While the sources of revenue were detailed, there is no corresponding breakdown of expenditures to justify the increase.”
Obi stressed that Nigerians deserve to know how the newfound revenues are being allocated—and to what effect. Key areas he noted for scrutiny include education, healthcare, security, and poverty alleviation, where citizens should be able to see improvements tied directly to rising resources.
Does It Matter?
Call for Fiscal Clarity – Obi is demanding transparency on a growing public ledger but missing meaningful reporting on how those funds are deployed.
Delivering on Paper vs. Reality – Without visible results in sectors that affect daily life, increased numbers in the national budget ring hollow.
Political Accountability at Stake – Obi’s stance echoes a growing sentiment that revenue growth must translate to real, visible progress for all Nigerians.
