Supporters of Peter Obi have insisted they will go ahead with the planned “OccupyINEC” protest, demanding electoral reforms and greater transparency fromelectoral commission ahead of the 2027 polls.
The movement, known as Obidients, rejected calls to suspend the action and accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of failing to address irregularities from previous elections.
A spokesperson for the group said the protest was necessary to push for credible polls. “We cannot continue to watch INEC operate without accountability. The occupy protest will go on as planned,” the spokesperson stated.
Organisers said the demonstration would be peaceful but firm, with participants gathering at INEC headquarters and state offices to press for reforms including electronic voting and stricter enforcement of electoral laws.
Security agencies have been placed on alert, while the commission has not issued any official comment on the planned action.
