The Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA, Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere has advised members of the public to adopt attitudinal change in their waste disposal.
Anere said agency will commence implementation of “Operation keep Anambra State clean” from Tuesday, 8th August, 2023.
Comrade Anere, who revealed this in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Mr Anthony Agbafune, stated that the agency will, on commencement of the operation, arrest any vehicle driver, owner of hotel, corporate office, residential home without wastebin.
He further hinted that on commencement of the operation, any driver of sand-carrying tipper, refuse-disposing truck, gravel-conveying truck plying in the state without covering their truck with tarpaulin will be arrested and charged to the Anambra State Revenue Court.
He equally instructed that all residential buildings, offices, corporate establishments, hotels, kiosks, shops, and markets in the state must have two wastebins, adding that every waste must be properly bagged for easy evacuation.
Stating that there are no customized bucket in the state, Comrade Anere urged every person to go into the market and buy one or buy from the Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA.
On the implementation of state laws on environment, the OCHA Brigade boss announced that a special monitoring team has been set up with the responsibility of going round the state to arrest offenders for punitive actions, adding that a monitoring device has also been installed in parts of the state for the purpose of arresting and charging to court anyone seen throwing out waste from a moving vehicle.
On people defecating inside the drainages, particularly at Upper Iweka Onitsha, Comrade Anere warned that anyone caught in the act or other acts of polluting the state must be made to feel the full weight of relevant laws, urging Ndị Anambra to help in keeping the state clean; in order to complement the good works of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, whom he said is determined to keep the state safe from epidemics.
