Odogwu Returns As NUJ Anambra Council Chairman

Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu has been returned re-elected as the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ, Anambra State Council in an election held on Friday at the Godwin Ezemo International Press Center, Awka.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
Dr. Odogwu polled 173 votes to defeat his opponent, Comrade Ngozi Obileri who got 40 votes cast.

Also, Mr. Chibuzo Obidike of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Chapel of the Union who was elected Treasurer, polled 168 votes to defeat the incumbent, Comrade Ogemdi Ozoemena, who got 45 votes cast.

Other elected NUJ executives include, Dr Okey Onuegbu (Secretary), Mrs Chinyere Ogbuagu (Assistant Secretary) and Financial Secretary, Comrade Grace Onwukwe were returned unopposed.

According to the Chairman, Credentials Commitee, Dr. Stanley Onunkwo, over 250 voters turn up, out of over 300 expected voters.

Dr. Onunkwo emphasized that the election was free and fair and sets a precedent for future elections in the union, noting that NUJ remains one family not minding who won or lost, as those who lost can re-recontest in future elections and win.

Speaking in an interview, Dr Odogwu thanked God for the victory, promising to do better in the next three years than he did in his first tenure.

The NUJ Chairman said his priorities will be to upgrade the infrastructure at the council secretariat and improve the welfare of union members.

The elected Treasurer, Comrade Obidike, on his part, thanked God and members of the union for giving him the opportunity to serve and promised to put in his best, work with the new leadership and every member of the union to move the union bettter.

The Director General (DG) Odogwu Campaign Team and Manager of Angel Network News (ANN), Dr Ifeanyi Obiefuna, said the re-elected NUJ Chairman is the right man for the job and he is trusted to attract more local and international training opportunities for members.

The new members of the executive were later administered with the oath of office and sworn-in into office.
