A controversial pastor has offered words of encouragement to singer Davido following his shutout at the 2026 Grammy Awards, dismissing the accolade’s importance and celebrating the artist’s existing legacy in a viral video message.
Odumeje, an Anambra-based cleric known for his charismatic style, urged the Afrobeats star not to let the loss dim his spirits, emphasizing that Davido’s fame and fanbase transcend any formal recognition.
“Davido, you’re already a generational award awarded with a lot of award. There’s no award that you will receive now that means anything. You have already awarded any award you need. Your life, your steps are awards,” Odumeje said in the clip shared widely on social media.
He added: “Don’t allow any ordinary iron to quench the fire of your joy. What is Grammy, who knows the Grammy. Who Grammy help? Grammy didn’t make us to know Davido. We know you as a good singer and that is why we love you.”
The message comes after Davido, along with compatriots Burna Boy and Ayra Starr, failed to clinch wins despite nominations at the Los Angeles ceremony, where South African artist Tyla took the Best African Music Performance category.
