Court remanded controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, in custody Monday after denying him bail on charges of assault, resisting arrest, and theft, following allegations he attacked his baby mama and others at his bar on New Year’s Day, police said.
The Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, heard that Portable assaulted actress Omobolarinde Akinyanju, known as Ashabi Simple — one of his baby mamas and mother of two of his children — along with police officers and other individuals in Iyana Ilogbo.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the development, telling local media: “Yes, he was arraigned and remanded yesterday.”
The prosecution alleged Portable stole a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at 12 million naira ($6,800) belonging to Ileyemi Damilola, linked to car dealer Wally Dex Auto, with other victims including Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah
Two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the assault, though she was absent from court.
Police also accused the singer of obstructing and assaulting female inspector Ogungbe Olayemi during her duties.
The presiding judge declined bail due to the absence of the assaulted police officer, ruling she must appear before a decision, and adjourned the hearing to January 19 while remanding Portable.
The Ogun State Police Command has ordered a probe into a viral video allegedly showing Portable assaulted in custody.
