Okumagba Sacked As IMC Chairman Unified Supporters Club

In a significant shake-up within Nigeria’s football supporters’ community, Vincent Okumagba has been removed from his position as the Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman of the Unified Supporters Club. His tenure, which was initially intended to bring cohesion among supporters, has ended amid allegations of divisive leadership and mismanagement.

Angel Network News (ANN) recall that Okumagba was appointed to oversee the supporters’ coordination during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. However, his leadership style came under intense scrutiny, with critics accusing him of operating with an autocratic approach that alienated key stakeholders within the supporters’ community.

According to sources within the organization, Okumagba was perceived as favoring individuals who aligned with his personal agenda, thereby sidelining other members of the IMC. This exclusionary leadership style reportedly led to growing tensions and dissatisfaction within the club’s ranks.

Additionally, concerns were raised over the welfare of supporters under Okumagba’s tenure. Allegations of poor resource management and inadequate support for members surfaced, particularly during matchday activities. Supporters lamented the lack of essential logistics, which they say affected their ability to function effectively in their role of backing the national team.

The decision to remove Okumagba from the IMC leadership was reportedly reached after a crucial meeting involving various supporters’ groups, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olapade, and the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Following deliberations, it was concluded that Okumagba would no longer be permitted to act, speak, or sign on behalf of the Unified Supporters Club.

ANN gathered that other supporters’ clubs have reaffirmed their commitment to unity during national team matches. However, some have clarified that while they support a unified front in the stands, they may not necessarily engage in daily operations with the Unified Supporters Club.

This leadership change is seen as a step towards fostering inclusivity and transparency within Nigeria’s football supporters’ community.

As the search for new leadership begins, stakeholders remain hopeful that the next phase will usher in a more collaborative and efficient administration that prioritizes the collective interests of all members.

The Unified Supporters Club is now expected to chart a new course, one that ensures effective leadership and better coordination among its members, in the interest of supporting Nigerian football on the global stage.
