Oluwo of Iwoland stated why bandits can’t kidnap, assassinate him

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has expressed concerns over recent attacks on traditional rulers in the country, especially the south-west region.

Addressing journalist in his palace, Oluwo said traditional rulers in the country have become targets of kidnappers.

The traditional ruler, however, said that he cannot be kidnapped or assassinated by bandits or criminal element.

He said the continued reliance of traditional rulers on deities would not guarantee safety but bring dishonour to the thrones.

“I am telling you right here that no one would dare attempt to kidnap or mark me for assassination,” he said.

“I am covered by God’s protection, not by any deity or gods. I am using this opportunity to call on my colleague monarchs to stop putting their hopes on deities and return everything to the Almighty God whom they represent.”

Oba Akanbi said this at the time Nigerians are concerned about the three monarchs that lost their lives in the hands of bandits in Ekiti and Kwara states in the past weeks.

Recall that two Yoruba monarchs were recently abducted and killed by kidnappers in Ekiti.

They were Oba David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti; and Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti.

A few days later another king in Kwara, Peter Aremu-Cole, Onikoro of Koro-Ekiti in Ekiti LGA of Kwara state, was murdered at his palace.

His wife and thirteen others who were kidnapped have since regained their freedom.
