The transition committee chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Council Area, Hon. Emeka Orji has presented a comprehensive account of his positive transformational achievements within one year in office.
Speaking during a TV/Radio interview session on my ABS, Hon. Orji presented series of milestone achievements and litanies of successfully executed projects and many more which are currently ongoing in the council area and he highlighted his journey as Onitsha South TC Chairman in the following categories below;
On sanitation: The Chairman affirmed that he has embarked on aggressive steady environmental sanitation exercise through the environment services providers such as Tipline environmental services, Pinnacle environmental services and Fegge Landlord Association, noting that Onitsha South LGA is now ranked as one of the best in cleanliness in the State.
On desilting/clearing of drainages and sakamori and demolition of illegal structures: On the orders of Governor Soludo to remove any building/structures built on and along drainage/flood channels, my team has carried out demolition of illegal structure at Portharcourt road by Fegge Onitsha built on drainage/flood channels and also encroaching on government land. We have also issued warnings to defaulters to desist from developing structures encroaching on the Sakamori channel. We have waged total war on closed drainages by desilting and opening up of drainages, sakamori and blocked gutters in the entire Onitsha South local government area.
On inaguaration of Onitsha South local government vigilante group: In other to checkmate and stop criminal activities, he inaugurated OSLGA Vigilante Group to ensure adequate maximum security in Onitsha South Council Area. By this, we have also dealt a heavy blow on criminals around upper iweka axis through the Onitsha South local government vigilante group as criminals has taken to their heels and Onitsha South LGA is no longer a safe haven for them, he said.”
Planting of economic trees and oil palm seedlings for greener and healthy environment: We have keyed into Operation Clean, Green Healthy and Sustainable Anambra for Onitsha South, as we have embarked on both distribution and planting of economic trees, kindred fruits and flowers on the roads/streets in and around Onitsha South LGA to improve on the ecosystem and beautification of the council area.
On local government workers welfare and friendly working environment Inauguration of enforcement team: We have created an enabling worker friendly atmosphere to encourage workers to be punctual and to discharge their assigned duties carefully and diligently by Initiating a cash reward system. We have also intervened in disputes in our various markets and wards and ensured that Peace reigns on every side.
On recovery of local government lands illegally occupied by some individuals, companies, markets and business owners: Hon. Orji noted that in line with the Governor’s directive on recovery of government lands and properties in private hands, his administration has succeeded in recovery many land, which includes the land occupied by MTI Complex by Damija Avenue Housing Estate (Bridge Head 2) Fegge, The closing down of Julius Berger site office due to non payment of year’s of accrued local government levies which has totalled to hundreds of millions of naira. NIWA park and other part of the local government land sold and illegally occupied by Banks and industries, especially the likes of Life Brewery amongst others were also recovered.
On Beautification of road around Onitsha South Council Area and Inaguaration of Onitsha South local government environmental marshalls and inaguaration of Onitsha South local government road traffic management agency: We have also gone ahead to facilitate the beautification of Onitsha Asaba Express way, from Head brigde and mobilized the relocation of urban boys secondary to ugborimili primary school in order to build a general hospital, since we had only one functional general hospital at Onitsha North LGA. We have also carried out major beautification works at roundabouts, triangles, gardens, and green vegetation around the entire council area.
Other notable works includes the finishing beautification of Onitsha South local government complex and tying up to over 3000 square meters of compound with concrete slabs which is first in the history of Onitsha South Council Area, and Palliative works on major access roads and subsequent Introduction of one-way system in busy areas of the council area.
Hon. Emeka went further to call on stakeholders to support the state government and local government campaign of building a more united, secured, livable and prosperous Onitsha South Council Area.
