The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, has strongly condemned the indiscriminate dumping of refuse across the council area.
The Mayor described the practice as a threat to public health, the environment, and the overall socio-economic well-being of the people.
During an on-the-spot assessment of strategic locations, the Mayor emphasized the need for immediate action. He announced plans to implement a structured and sustainable waste management system, including the installation of Refuse Collection Points (RCPs) in key areas of the local government.
These points are expected to improve refuse collection, discourage illegal dumping, and enhance overall sanitation.
Barr. Ononiba stressed that only a multifaceted approach comprising systemic waste management reforms, strict enforcement, and active community compliance can effectively curb the menace of indiscriminate dumping.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and safer Njikoka.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that Ononiba was ccompaned by Hon. Cyprian Aniagoh, Supervisory Councillor for Works; Hon. Izuchukwu Ugokwe, Supervisory Councillor for Environment; and Mr. Austyn Toochi Nwoye, Managing Director of Njikoka Waste Management Agency.
