The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba in a bid to resolve the leadership crisis at the Oyeagu Market in Abagana, has intervened in the ongoing dispute.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the Mayor’s visit was accompanied by Chairman of the Anambra Traders Market Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna.
Barr. Ononiba while speaking said the purpose of the visit was to address the leadership issues affecting the market and foster peace and cooperation among the traders.
The Mayor commended the traders for their civility and conduct, urging them to continue working together for the betterment of the market community.
Ononiba acknowledged the need for urgent improvements in the market, particularly to prevent fire outbreaks, emphasized that the market’s facilities need a facelift, including the installation of toilet facilities to ensure good hygiene for all traders and customers. He assured traders that any shop owner with valid ownership documents would have their stalls reinstated after the renovation process.
The LGA boss stated that Anambra State government is committed to creating a safer and more organized market environment by building a hall and office for the market union.
In response, the ASMATA Zonal Chairman for Awka Zone, Mrs. Promise Ezeigwe commended the Mayor for his intervention and pledged that the market union would fully abide by the government’s directives for the collective good of the traders at Oyeagu Market, Abagana.
