Orumba South Council Chairman Dissolves Multiple Okada Union, Inaugurates Transition Committee

The Transition Chairman of Orumba South, Hon Prince Neville Uchendu has dissolve the multiple okada unions which have been in existence in the local government area.

Hon Uchendu, who announced this at  his office, Orumba South LG Headquarters, Umunze, at the weekend during a meeting with some executives of the over five unions, which previously existed in the LGA, said the dissolution took efect February 6, 2024.

Angel Network News (ANN) the TC chairman also at the event, inaugurated a 12-man transition committee with a charge to conduct a credible and transparent election for a united okada union in Orumba South within 90 days.

Pointing out that the committee was part of his administration’s initiative to sanitise Orumba South, the LG boss enjoined the chairman and the members to live up to demands of their responsibility.

Uchendu, who noted that crime rate had reduced in Orumba South, solicitor for more cooperation from the okada operators so as to according to him make the local government area a liveable and prosperous homeland in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s transformation agenda.

He called on the committee to come up with workable modalities for the success of the election, ensure that qualified candidates are allowed to contest, and before the expiration of the 90 days, conduct the election that would produce capable exeutive for a one united  okada union in Orumba South. 

The LG boss, also known as Mayor of Atlanta, added that the one union when in existence would necessitate easier coordination of the operators as well as bring about optimum peace, orderliness and development.

 The Orumba South Okada Operators Union Transition Committee, had  Mr Okechukwu Anusiobi, an indigene of Umunze, Orumba South as the chairman and Mr Jonah Moses, an indigene of Ohaozalla, Ebonyi State, as the vice chairman. Hon Emma Ezewuzie, a staff of the local government, was appointed  the secretary, to take down the proceedings of the meetings.

Okechukwu, Anosike  Chinedu John, Nnaemeka Nwankwo, Anthony Ude,  and five others, were the members. 

In their various remarks, the president general, Umunze Progressive Union, Engr Ezekiel and he traditional prime minister, Umunze, Ichie Obinna Ukaejiofor, advised the committee chairman and members against any form of bribery and corruption. But, to, instead ensure that they conduct a free, fair and credible election that would be for the progress of Orumba South. 

In his acceptance speech, the Committee Chairman, Mr Okechukwu Abusiobi on behalf of his members, thanked the LG boss for the opportunity to serve. He promised to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Anusiobi, equally, commended Hon Uchendu for his efforts which he said, restored security of lives and property in Orumba South.
