Victor Osimhen scored against his former club as Galatasaray came from behind to beat Lille 4-2 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League league-phase match on Wednesday.
The Turkish side secured their first three points of the campaign in an entertaining encounter at the Decathlon Arena in northern France.
Galatasaray took the lead after just two minutes when Yunus Akgün finished from close range. Lille equalised five minutes later through Soriba Diaoune, who then put the hosts ahead in the 39th minute with his second goal of the night.
Galatasaray restored parity just before half-time as Alexey Batrakov headed in from Roland Sallai’s cross in the 44th minute, leaving the score 2-2 at the break.
The visitors moved in front early in the second half when Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer turned the ball into his own net in the 52nd minute. Osimhen then sealed the victory in the 61st minute, finishing a swift counter-attack after a pass from Baris Alper Yilmaz.
It was Osimhen’s first Champions League goal since February and his 14th in European competitions for Galatasaray, making him the club’s highest-scoring foreign player in Europe.
Lille introduced veteran striker Olivier Giroud in a bid to force a comeback, but Galatasaray defended resolutely to hold on for the win.
