Oyi LG Mayor Commissions Motorized Solar-Powered Boreholes In Awkuzu And Nteje Communities

In a major boost to rural infrastructure, addressing essential community needs and promoting sustainable grassroot development, the Mayor of Oyi Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Emma Nweke, earlier today officially commissioned two motorized, solar-powered boreholes today in Awkuzu and Nteje communities.

The projects, located in Ama Udala Village in Dusogu, Awkuzu, and Ama Obi-Ogbo Agwa in Ifite Nteje, are expected to dramatically improve sustainable access to clean, reliable and free water to enhance public health and overall well-being of community residents in Oyi Local Government Area.

The commissioning ceremony attracted a large turnout of stakeholders, including Oyi Local Government officials, traditional leaders, women’s groups, party faithful, amongst others.

In his remarks, Dr. Nweke lauded the communities for their spirited participation in the recent Anambra governorship election. He said the borehole project is just one of several life-transforming commitments under his administration, aimed at guaranteeing constituents access to steady and safe water.

“Water is a basic necessity for life,” Dr. Nweke emphasized, stressing that his administration is aligning with Governor Soludo’s vision of localizing development at the grassroots and called on residents to maintain the facilities, adding that security measures, including CCTV camera has been installed to protect the installations.

The mayor also highlighted other administration achievements, noting that his regime is the first to asphalt a major community road within Oyi LGA. He also revealed that his government is providing scholarships: a ₦1 million grant for first-class graduates and ₦500,000 for second-class graduates among the indigenes.

Dr. Nweke also revealed his vision to install the ultramodern solar powered boreholes in all the five communities in the council and further reiterated his broader commitment to human capital development through various empowerment and education initiatives, all designed to uplift the overall standard of living in Oyi.

Community leaders voiced their gratitude during the commissioning. Hon. Chinedu Orakwe, Chairman of Ama Udala Village, Chief Innocent Odife, the Village Secretary, and Chief Uchenna Okumefuna, Chairman of Ama Obi-Ogbo Agwa and the Traditional Ruler of Awkuzu, HRH Igwe Prof. Charles Anikweze, all pledged their full support and promised to ensure the long-term sustainability of the water projects.

Also in attendance were the APGA State Auditor, Hon. Oraegbunam Uchenna; Chief of Staff to the Mayor, Apostle Chijioke Ozoemena; President General of Awkuzu, Dr. Ejike Ogoegbunam; Hon. Achebe Brown; Chief Christian Aniegboka; Oyi LG Supervisors especially Hon. Emeka Anigbogu, Congress of Councillors and APGA Chairman of Nteje Ward Four, and Hon. Nwankwo Ikenna.
