The 2025 Dunukofia Games Festival has commenced with the Chairman of Dunukofia Local government Chijioke Ozumba Esq, performing the ceremonial kick-off.
The opening game had the defending champions Ifitedunu delivered a commanding 7:2 victory over Nawgu, their familiar rivals.
Angel Network News (ANN) recall that in 2024, the final was contested between the same two communities, with Ifitedunu lifting the trophy. Once again, they have proven why they remain a dominant force in Dunukofia sports.
The moment was greeted with loud applause, excitement and celebration from spectators, dignitaries and sports enthusiasts across the LGA.
This year’s festival is proudly coordinated by the Dunukofia Games Festival Organizing Committee, under the leadership of the Supervisor for Youth and Sports Development, Harrison A. Nwegwu, whose efforts, dedication and strategic planning ensured a successful, peaceful, entertaining and highly colourful opening ceremony.
On the field, the defending champions wasted no time stamping their authority. Quick passes, sharp finishing and tactical discipline saw Ifitedunu dominate from start to finish. Nawgu, who also reached last year’s final, fought bravely and found the net twice, but the superior firepower of Ifitedunu left no room for doubt.
The atmosphere throughout the event was vibrant and energetic, filled with drums, cheers, dance, community spirit and pure football excitement.

With the champions already making a statement on Day One, the road to the 2025 crown has truly begun.

ANN reports that the day two of the ongoing Dunukofia Games Festival 2025 delivered another exciting chapter of competitive brilliance, tactical discipline, and community pride as teams battled across volleyball and football fixtures.
In the female volleyball category, Umudioka clinched victory over Ifitedunu, showcasing better coordination, ball control, and strategic finishing.
The contest, played in a best-of-three format, saw Umudioka take charge early and maintain composure to secure the win.
The male volleyball encounter followed with equal intensity, but Ukpo proved too strong for Umunnachi, dominating the court and sealing the match in convincing fashion. Their performance earned applause from spectators, signalling Ukpo as a team to watch in this year’s tournament.
The highlight of Day two, however, was the female football showdown. Umudioka sent Umunnachi out of the competition with a decisive 3–0 victory, converting chances with precision and showing remarkable teamwork.
This win carries extra weight, as Umudioka had also defeated Umunnachi in the 2024 Dunukofia Championship, and they have now repeated the feat on a bigger stage in the 2025 Games Festival, proving consistency, strength, and tactical superiority.
Umunnachi found themselves under early pressure scoring an owngoal, resulting in an unfortunate deflection that gifted Umudioka their opening goal. And, a well-timed finish doubled Umudioka’s lead, with Anoliefo Chinaza (No. 14) showing brilliant positioning and control. While, Chukwunulu Favour (No. 31) sealed the match in clinical fashion, firing home the third goal and putting the game beyond reach.
