Singer Peter Okoye said he has permanently moved his birthday celebration from November 18 to November 30 to shield his wife from repeated online abuse linked to the long-running feud with his twin brother Paul.
In the sixth instalment of his video series detailing the P-Square dispute, Okoye explained that every shared birthday anniversary had become a source of conflict and public insults directed at his wife, Lola.
“Right now I have changed my birthday. It’s worth it. Do you know what I’ve been going through ever since PSquare had problems? And anytime we’re celebrating our birthday, it will be insult upon insult on my wife and myself,” he said.
He described how Lola struggled to post birthday messages without triggering attacks.
“Ever since P Square started having problems, Lola doesn’t know how to post happy birthday to me alone. Because if she posts me alone, people will start insulting her. So, she posts Paul and me. You all know how Paul always responds. Paul will post on his IG story; people go to her page to insult her,” Okoye added.
He recounted a recent incident that led to a serious argument with his wife after Paul allegedly shamed her on Instagram Stories following her post.
“The last one Paul did. Lola and I had a serious fight. I told her not to post about the birthday. When Lola posted, Paul posted in his IG story; he shamed her. And people expect me to continue celebrating the same birthday date with him?”
Okoye said he now leaves his home every November 18, either travelling or staying with friends, to avoid the atmosphere created by Paul’s annual barbecue parties and the subsequent gossip that reaches his doorstep.
“Every November 18th, I have to leave my house. Either I travel, or I go to my friend’s place and stay alone. I don’t stay with my family,” he said. “I just want to remove my mind because every November 18th, PSquare’s crisis will start hitting the internet.”
He noted that he had previously timed music releases for the date to avoid posting birthday messages, but has now settled on November 30 as his new celebration day, while acknowledging that changing official documents remains complicated because of his frequent tours.
