PDP Hold Mini Rally In Awka, Strategize Ahead Of 2025 Election In Anambra

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Anambra State Chapter at the weekend held a mini- rally in Awka, strategize ahead Of 2025 governorship election.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
Anambra PDP Chairman Engr. Chigozie Igwe in his speech said the party is poised to end the lingering misrule the state has suffered under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) in the past 18 years.

Igwe who acknowledged the misfortunes of the party during the 2023 general election, contented that PDP remains the bastion of hope for Nigerians at all levels of governance.

“The event is great in the sense that it is the first time since the last 2023 election that our vast party faithful from across the grassroots and wards of Anambra state have had the rare honor to co-mingle in brotherhood with unity and common purpose of restoring power to the Nigerian people and Ndi Anambra in particular through the instrumentality of PDP.

“PDP became a bastion of hope and accomplishment for transition of governance from a devastating long period of Military rule to the painstaking establishment and deepening of democratic norms, structures and institutions, on assumption of power by PDP in 1999.

“Sadly, while the Nigerian glorious journey was halted in 2015 by a deceitful propaganda machinery of the APC which has, as at today, only succeeded in pummeling Nigerians into unimaginable dungeon of calamities and extreme hunger; the trajectory of development and progress already set by successive PDP government in Anambra State was earlier abruptly interrupted in 2006 by an APGA government which after eighteen years of poor governance, left Anambra state resplendent with very little to show for the huge resources it has received so far, as Federal allocations to the state, the twenty one Local government areas of the state and recently, it’s share of 13% derivation from Oil revenues. This is not excluding the Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) of the state”.

For this, the chairman noted that the people of the state are earnestly waiting for the PDP to rescue them from the lingering misrule of the past 18 years under the APGA leadership.

“The nightmares currently being experienced by the people of Anambra state have been further exacerbated by serious insecurity coupled with stagnation of all shades of developmental activities that are anchored on democratic values, as a result of the refusal of the APGA government in Anambra State to conduct Local government elections.

“Our people are desperate to survive and they are looking up to PDP as the only alternative to the current bad governance in Nigeria and Anambra state. But with the enthusiastic crowd that I see here now, it is evident that our party has bounced back and is ready to take up the challenge.

To reposition the PDP for future electoral victories, the current leadership, Igwe said had marshaled out three Rs as its cardinal operational objectives. “The cardinal objectives are – Re-awaken, Restore and Reposition and we have also imbibed truth and justice as the watchword in order to achieve a remodeled party that will be cohesive in purpose and efficient in delivery.

“We have continued to reach out to our Stakeholders in a reconciliatory manner. The co-operation and positive outcomes so far have been massive. We have visited and reconciled several local government areas where there were disputes and made sure that all our structures are intact.

“At the ward level, the machinery that we set up are also working in conformity with our purpose and the feedbacks are heartwarming. Several members of our party that left earlier have returned. New members are also trouping in because they could see that Anambra PDP has re-invented itself and is poised to shoulder the emancipation of Anambra state in 2025.

The chairman said the party under his watch is re-strategizing to win future elections in the area. “We will immediately embark on elaborate tour of our party formations in the local government areas to further oil the structures that we have activated. We shall also proceed immediately with fresh party registration and mobilization for both old and new members. Let us be prepared and also maintain the wonderful dedication that has taken us this far”.

Other stakeholders including the National Auditor, Hon. Obi Okechukwu, in their separate messages, promised unalloyed loyalty to the party in its bid to recapture Anambra in 2025. “What I see today shows that dead bones shall rise again. Those who left will come back and take the back seat. I assure you that the message of today will get to the National Working Committee”.

The immediate past state chairman, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, said he attended the rally to lay to rest all insinuations surrounding his membership of PDP. “Also, I am here to show my loyalty to the leadership of the party in Anambra State. We have challenges but our ability to surmount them make us who we are. As a political scientist, I tell you that there is no party greater than PDP in Nigeria as at today”.

Former Minister and National Woman Leader, Iyom Josephine Anenih, encouraged party faithful to keep the faith in PDP. She contended, “Those people living the PDP are not our authentic members. Those of you at the ward level know that even if it is bad now, it will be good again. I urge you to work assiduously together to win the forthcoming LG elections to set the stage for our victory in 2025.

One of the party leaders, Chief Celestine Tagbo advised the National body of the party against undue interference in the affairs of the state chapter. “Anambra is still PDP. The forthcoming local government elections, let’s get ready for we shall use it to test our strength”.

The Zonal Woman Leader, Mrs Anthonia Nwankwu and Anambra State woman, Mrs Patricia Uju Onyia, stressed the need to get women actively involved in the affairs of the state even as they call for accountability and transparency at all levels.

Several other stakeholders including former House of Assembly member, Hon Vin. Atigwe, Chief Ike Obiekie, Chief Kenneth Ezeoke, and Sir Ben Nwosu were optimistic that the party is on the right track and looking good to take over Agu Awka (the seat of Anambra State Government) in 2025.
