It is no longer news that the former governor Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has left the People Democratic Party (PDP). Details why Obi left the main opposition party is still sketchy. However, it is not completed unconnected to what many believe is that attitude of party delegates to sell their votes to the highest bidder. Obi feels that the PDP has turned into Atiku People Democratic Party as the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar who is also a contender has bought all the party delegates.
Though not public at the moment, it is being rumored that Obi is being wooed and is already making moves to form alliance with the new party recently formed by the former governor of Kano State, Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP). Many are already saying that the new party is offering Obi an outright ticket to be their flag bearer in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.
The Implication of Obi-Kwankwaso’s Alliance
If these speculations which are yet to be confirmed are true, then believe you me, the die is cast. The battle line has been drawn. Winter is coming. We are heading for the last dual for the struggle of the soul of Nigeria. It will be a clash of centripetal forces and centrifugal tendencies. Retrogressive elements are already rattled that the progressive ideological movement of Peter Obi is on stratospheric rise. They’re fighting back already. Peter Obi’s light has exposed their darkness of political buccaneering. The coming days will be interesting, challenging and inspiring.

If you believe in a new Nigeria which Peter Obi aspiration represents, this is not time to sit on the fence. Gone is the era of “we wait and see.” This is the time to take side with the progressives. Silence is no longer golden. Please lend your voice; we need it now. Sharpen the sword of your PVC and prepare for the impending onslaught. The first stage of the fight is the battle of narratives cum propaganda. And it has started. They’re spinning all sorts of innuendoes and conjectures, with the hope that it will corrupt your perception of incorruptible Peter Obi, dampen your enthusiasm about the movement and deflate your zeal. But only if they know how determined we are.
Obi is the Man
Lifespan of propaganda is shorter than falsehood. They said Peter Obi couldn’t declare, he declared. They insinuated that he was only popular on social media, we did #1millionmarch4peterobi. They were outraged. They said he was not in control of the delegates. But we know why? He doesn’t believe in transactional politics. Obi told delegates that only a goat could be bought with money. They said he can’t win the primary; he left the party for them. Yet they’re still crying. If Peter Obi is not the biggest political force in Nigeria today, why are the naysayers obsessed with him.
With the exit of Peter Obi from the PDP, it is over as regards its presidential aspiration. When a life leaves a body it becomes dead. Atiku and Wike are fighting for the carcass of the PDP. Whoever wins the ticket is inconsequential now. PDP’s Aso Rock dream of 2023 died on 25th May, 2022. We are eagerly waiting for APC’s candidate. The PDP is technically out of the contest. The new line of propaganda being pushed by spin doctors is that only APC and PDP can win presidential election. And I ask: who is that PDP aspirant that can match APC and win the presidential election?
Atiku? former vice president that struggled to win his state in 2019. Out of the six states of Northeast, he won only Adamawa and Taraba! majority of the 11 million votes he is laying claim to, came from Peter Obi’s supporters. Currently, Atiku is a political orphan in the North: so-called unifier that can’t represent zoning. He has lost the South that used to be his stronghold.
Wike? Rivers governor embodies money politics. He believes that everyone has a price and can be bought. He might win the primary with public funds. Of what use is a ticket that won’t fly even in Rivers when the governor is currently bitten everyone into submission. If Amaechi wins ticket of APC, the Port Harcourt “ATM” can’t win his state.
Tambuwal and Saraki? The two are inconsequential as long as the present Nigerian presidential permutations are concerned.
So, in essence, PDP died yesterday when Obi left.
