Phyna Denies Claim She Was Owed BBNaija ₦100m, Says Viral Clip Was Edited

Rality TV star Josephina “Phyna” Otabor has denied that she told fans she has not received the ₦100 million prize she won on Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), saying a viral video was maliciously edited and nearly sparked legal trouble with the show’s organisers.

Phyna — who won the “Level Up” edition of BBNaija in 2022 — addressed the controversy during a livestream on Twitch, where she said remarks circulating online misrepresented her comments. “They keep cutting my video, I never said I have not received my 100 million naira,” she said, describing the edits as intentional. “I was only talking to people who asked me if the 100 million naira has finished.”

The edited clip, which reignited debate over the long-settled prize money, prompted a swift response from the reality star, who said the misunderstanding nearly drew her into a fresh legal dispute with Multichoice Nigeria, the organisers of BBNaija. “I told them to watch the complete video. It was cut. People are doing it intentionally,” she said.

Phyna warned social media influencers and bloggers against circulating edited content that could damage her reputation or result in legal consequences, saying she is prepared to take action if necessary. “Anybody who cuts my video to twist it — if it brings any problem, I will sue,” she cautioned.

The clarification adds to a long-running dispute over BBNaija prize disbursements and the reality star’s public narrative, although show organisers have maintained in the past that contractual obligations were fulfilled.
