Anambra State House of Assembly Assembly at plenary on Thursday, passed into law, the 2025 appropriation bill totaling, 606, 991, 849, 118 naira for the services of the government of Anambra state for the year ending 31st December 2025.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the passage of the Appropriation Bill followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation Chaired by Hon Ejike Okechukwu.
Hon. Okechukwu who is representing Anaocha two Constituency while presenting the report, said the budget size was retained as presented by the governor.
The lawmaker said the recurrent expenditure is N139,507,955,604 representing 23% of the entire budget, while the capital estimate is N467, 473, 201, 837 representing 77%.
He said their was no changes with what Governor Chukwuma Soludo presented before the House few weeks ago but that there are some adjustments internally in the budget.
“There were certain codes that were changed in the ministry of health both in recurrent and capital expenditure but the changes did not affect the budget sizes allocated to the ministry”. Okechukwu said.
In his remarks, the Speaker, Rt Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary said the passage of the budget is a great milestone for the state and a testament of the collective synergy between the legislature and the executive.
Rt. Hon. Udeze commended the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for thorough scrutiny and recommendations made, which received broad support from the lawmakers.
The Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts and member representing Ogbaru one constituency, Hon. Nobel Igwe while speaking on the 2025 budget said from the current fiscal year, there was prudence in the management of public funds.
Hon. Igwe who is the Deputy Majority Leader maintain that when the budget was brought by Governor Soludo, the House looked at it holistically, analysed it and found out that there is no need to increase the budget size.
The member representing Orumba South Constituency Hon. Emma Nwafor while speaking said during the bilateral discussion, the committee made sure that no MDA was left behind.
Hon. Nwafor who is the House Committee Chairman on Works and Infrastructure maintained that infrastructural development forms the major part of the budget. He expressed belief that in 2025, there will be a very good change.
