Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the commissioner of education to take all necessary steps to include first aid education in school curriculum of secondary and tertiary institutions because of its enormous importance.
Chief sponsor of the motion Hon. Tony Muobike in his submission said emergency life-saving skills represents initial practical response procedures for managing medical emergencies before moving patient to hospital.
According to Hon. Muobike who is the member representing Aguata two constituency, section 33 of the Nigerian constitution guarantees the right to life of every individual in Nigeria.
In his words “The availability of first aid and basic life support skills in emergency cases is critical and decisive in the determination of victim survival.
” Medical emergencies do not choose their time, location and victim and that delays can lead to serious outcomes including loss of life.
” A major cause of death during such aforementioned emergencies is absence of someone with elementary life saving skills.
” Lack of Basic life-saving skills and equipment has led to countless fatalities in our dear state and country.
“The introduction of basic life support training in our school curriculum will build a new generation of citizens with skills that will save lives and improve victim survival during emergencies;Â
” Many have lost their leaves because during emergency, those around do not have the basic trainings. People this days instead of assisting, take pictures of victim. If those around have the basic knowledge, they would do the right thing”.
Muobike concluded.

Pat Okafor, Hon. Henry Mbachu, Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua, Hon. Fred Ezenwa, Majority Leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme and Hon. Chuks Azotani all spoke on the importance of first aid education in school curriculum.
” Introducong first aid education is very important for emergencies. This is a life saving motion because we have lost many people for lack of knowledge.Â
” Schools are duty bound to adhere to it because it is in the law. Students needs to be acquainted with all safty measures. It will serve as a training ground to future health practitioners.Â
“Many parents have lost their children and many children have lost their parents simply because they don’t know what to do during emergencies and it is sad.
” Chest compression, CPR, mouth to mouth amongst others are basic knowledge needed by our children and adults”. The lawmakers submittedÂ

describing it as a life changing motion whose motive is to catch them young
