A bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Roads Fund (ASRF) and the Anambra State Road Fund Bill (ASRFB) for the purposes of funding the management, planning, development, rehabilitation, reconstruction and maintenance of class C and D roads in Anambra State and to make provisions for connected matters, has passed through second reading.
The Majority Leader, Sir. Ikenna Ofodeme who sponsored the bill, while leading the debate at plenary on Tuesday, maintained that after creating an agency, funding is important.
Hon. Ofodeme who is the lawmaker representing Ekwusigo Constituency, noted that the board will make use of some percentage of the revenue generated by the state.
According to Ofodeme, the board will consist of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of works and Infrastructure, Anambra State Town Union Council, Nigeria Society of Engineers amongst others.
Supporting the bill, Hon. Golden lloh (Ihiala two), Tony Muobike (Aguata two), Patrick Okafor (Onitsha North two), Chief Whip, Jude Ngobili (Ihiala one) and Augustine Ike (Nnewi North) in their separate submissions, if passed into law, the roads linking Anambra communities will be properly maintained.
According to the lawmakers: “This is a step forward to the plan of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to connect all roads linking Anambra communities.
” With the passage of this bill, the state government will achieve more in rural road development”.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, referred the bill to a joint committee on Works and Infrastructure, and committee on Judiciary.

Rt. Hon. Udeze urged the joint committee to report back to the House in two week’s time.
