The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Chibuike Azubike, 65, who claimed the title “Obi of Lagos,” along with three accomplices for planning an unauthorized coronation ceremony that included unveiling a ₦1.5 billion “Palace of Obi.”
The other suspects arrested were Chibuzor Ani (57), Martins Nwaodika (65), and Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41). According to the police, intelligence led to the sealing off of Apple Hall, Amuwo-Odofin — the venue set for the event on September 13 — preventing the ceremony from proceeding.
Authorities said the suspects are being held at the Ikeja Police Command Headquarters as investigations continue. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh warned that such impersonations undermine traditional institutions and can lead to public disorder.
