Police Probe Woman, 21, Over Fatal Stabbing of Partner Amid Underage Cohabitation Concerns

A 21-year-old woman from Bayelsa State is under police investigation after allegedly stabbing her 34-year-old partner to death during a domestic altercation in Delta State, police authorities confirmed.

According to Delta State Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe, the suspect had been cohabiting with the deceased since the age of 17 and had borne him two children. Edafe disclosed the case in a social media post on Wednesday, sparking debate over societal and parental roles in cases of early cohabitation.

“If she is 21 years now, it means she started living with the man at 17 without a bride price. Who do we blame—the girl, the society, or her parents who gave her out so young?” Edafe wrote, noting that the woman’s education ended at Senior Secondary School Two despite her fluency in English.

The case has drawn public concern in Delta State and beyond, highlighting ongoing issues of child rights, parental neglect, and the pressures that force underage girls into early domestic arrangements.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspect remains in custody pending further inquiries.
