Police Sergeant Arrested For Killing Driver At Checkpoint over bribe

A police sergeant, Haruna Idi, was arrested for allegedly killing a driver at a check point along Jalingo-Yola Road.

Taraba police commissioner, Abimbola Sokoya, gave the order of arrest of the police sergeant.

The sergeant, a Police Mobile Force officer, had a misunderstanding with the driver at a checkpoint manned by mobile police personnel.

Angel Network News learnt that Idi shot the driver who was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, where he died on Tuesday.

The police commissioner has directed a deputy police commissioner in charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to head the investigation into the matter.

The police sergeant is being detained at the state command headquarters in Jalingo.

The police commissioner while appealing for calm said the police sergeant if found guilty of the offence would be dismissed and also be prosecuted.

He charged all policemen to be cautious while discharging their duties, and their focus must be on the protection of lives of the citizens, and warned against harassing or intimidating law-abiding citizens.
