Udengs Eradiri, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the Bayelsa State governorship election on November 11, has said that he is alarmed by the ranking of Bayelsa as Nigeria’s second poorest state after Sokoto State, describing it as disgraceful and disastrous.
He stated that the state’s woeful performance in all economic and developmental indices was an eloquent testimony that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Governor Douye Diri, had allegedly failed the state.
Eradiri, who spoke in Yenagoa, on Thursday, said the PDP and Diri had nothing to campaign with concerning the forthcoming political contest.
He said that he could not wrap his head around the alleged stinking poverty in Bayelsa despite the small population of the state and the huge revenue allocations from various sources.
The LP flagbearer attributed the underdevelopment of Bayelsa to the many years of alleged cluelessness, incompetence, avarice, profligacy and anti-people policies of the PDP, insisting that the current administration had no idea of how to tackle the issues.
He, therefore, urged the people to massively vote for the credible alternative offered by the LP, assuring them that he would use his ‘People, Education, Agriculture, Power’ (PEAP) agenda to give the state a fresh and solid beginning, if elected.
Eradiri said, “Why is Governor Douye Diri and the PDP still campaigning for a second term? Data technology company, StatiSense, recently unveiled the Multidimensional Poverty Index of 2022 report of the National Bureau of Statistics.
“That report exposed the number of people living in multidimensional poverty in the oil-rich Niger Delta states. That report is alarming, distressing and goes to show the failure of the PDP leadership of Bayelsa since 1999. It shows that the PDP leadership and the current government of Douye Diri diverted and squandered all our commonwealth.
