President Tinubu Nominates Tax Reform Chief for Finance Minister

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele, head of Nigeria’s fiscal policy and tax reforms committee, as minister of state for finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite in a cabinet adjustment.

The nomination, forwarded to the Senate for approval on March 3, sees Uzoka-Anite reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning in the same capacity.

Tinubu’s media adviser Bayo Onanuga announced: “President Bola Tinubu nominate Mr Taiwo Oyedele as di minister of state for finance, to replace Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite. Oga Tinubu today convey di nomination of Oyedele to di Senate for confamation for letter to di Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.”

Oyedele, 50, from Ondo State, holds qualifications in accountancy and finance from institutions including Yaba College of Technology and Oxford Brookes University, with further studies at the London School of Economics, Yale, and Harvard.

He spent over two decades at PwC, rising to fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader, and serves as a professor at Babcock University and visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.

Tinubu appointed Oyedele to lead the tax reforms committee in July 2023, with its inauguration following in August to address fiscal challenges in the country.
