Press Week: Njikoka LGA defeated NUJ Anambra Council 2-1

In an exciting kick-off to the 2024 Press Week, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, faced off against the Njikoka Local Government team in a novelty football match.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the highly anticipated match ended with Njikoka LGA emerging victorious, defeating NUJ Anambra Council 2-1.

Speaking to journalists after the football match, the Mayor of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, stated that sports should be encouraged and urged youths to participate more in sports activities.

Barr. Ononiba noted that sports is also a source of employment to engage youths, and Njikoka LGA known for its rich cultural heritage and economic growth, continues to make strides in promoting sports development and youth empowerment.

The NUJ Chairman emphasized on the importance of exercise, healthy living and also highlighted the need to keep fit.

Coach of NUJ football team, Comrade Abuchi Onwumelu in an interview after the match said the novelty match is aimed at promoting unity and camaraderie between journalists and local government officials and also
fostering relationships and community engagement.

The Mayor of Njikoka Local Government,
Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, was accompanied by his Councillors, Hon. Adaobi Nweke, Majority Leader, Hon. Ifeanyi Aghamba, Chief Whip, Hon. Ngozi Okafor, cheering on his team to victory.


Also in attendance were the Vice President of NUJ, South East zone Sir. Emma Ifesinachi, immediate past Chairman NUJ Anambra State Council, Comrade Francis Ekpone, Assistant Secretary NUJ Anambra council, Comrade Okechukwu Onuegbu phD, Press Week Planning Committee Chairman, Comrade Dr. Njide Ezeonwejiaku, Press Week Planning Committee Secretary, Comrade Dr. Ifeanyi Obiefuna amongst others.
