PSG confirm Kvaratskhelia faces surgery after ACL tear against Barça

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Tuesday’s Champions League victory over Barcelona and will undergo surgery in the coming days.

The 25-year-old was forced off in the second half of the 4-2 win after appearing to twist his knee, unable to put weight on the leg as he was helped from the pitch.

In an official statement, the club said: “Having suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday’s match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days.”

The injury is a significant setback for the French champions, who sit top of their Champions League group with three wins from three matches.

PSG also provided updates on two other players who left the field during the same match. Ousmane Dembélé will continue treatment over the coming weeks for a left thigh muscle injury, while captain Marquinhos faces a similar period of treatment for a right thigh muscle injury.

The full extent of Kvaratskhelia’s absence will become clearer after surgery and the start of his rehabilitation, though ACL tears typically sideline players for several months.
