QUICK THOUGHTS ON THE DEATH OF IFEANYI ADELEKE

As one who uses the social media so often, I cannot pretend not to have seen the viral reports on the sad incident of the demise of the son of a famous Nigerian music star, Davido. Before this sad occurrence, I have had the opportunity to come across videos of Ifeanyi and sincerely I love the boy because he was full of life. Also Ifeanyi Adeleke represented for me the bond and goodwill which the Igbo and Yoruba ethnic nationalities have failed to achieve these years.

Since the incident, condolences have been pouring in the Adelekes by people from different walks of life. Particularly, the offices of the major presidential candidates for the 2023 election have sent in their condolences. Davidos fellow stars and fans are also pouring in heartfelt condolences. In fact, Nigeria’s airwaves are currently buzzing from massages mourning the young Ifeanyi.   I read somewhere of a man who expressed some danger at the degree of attention the deceased was getting:it is not only Davido that has lost a child. The statement is understandable; however, I feel the man should not be surprised or angry at the level of attention the boy’s death has generated. The boy’s father is a star and our age is the age of hero-worshippers. That is by the way, I think the crux of the matter, which many have expressed is what is caused the death of the child and whether the death could have been prevented.

Perhaps, those taking care of the child in the absence of his parents should have been more attentive. Maybe the parents could have travelled with him. Nevertheless, this may not have been the first time they travelled without him or left him in the care of caregivers. We will not always be able to explain everything. Life they say is larger than logic.

What about the prophet who saw a revelation concerning the boy’s death?   That could be true but I think this is certainly not a time to come out to brag that you saw this or that. When he sawit what did he do? Why didn’t he ask God to spare the boy life? What was the purpose ofreceiving a revelation if you actually the death could not be averted? Nigeria has many attention seekers but do you blame them? When there is no genuine means of earning a living, many are bound to turn to swindlers.

I can imagine the pain of a father and mother when lost their beloved boy. I sincerely and from the bottom of my heart, send my condolences to David and Chioma their loss. As a have said already, at a time like this, many questions would be asked. How did this happen? Why did this happen? Who caused it? How could it have been prevented? etc. Also, several speculations regarding what might have been the root cause of the death would be flying on air. One blogger is already alleging that the Oba of Benin used the boy to renew his spiritual powers. Can you image such crazy insulation! The truth is that “life is a mystery. Some things happen which we cannot explain, no matter how hard we try. Why? Well, I do not know; life is just that way.Maybe one day, we will have time to ask God. Till then let’s make do with what we have and be grateful for it.
