Recovery of Unauthorized Withdrawals From FG: Anambra Assembly Grants Soludo’s Request

Anambra State House of Assembly, after deliberations, has grant the request of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in recovery and refund of stamp duties of state government from January 2015 – December 2022, and deduction of five percent at source consultancy fee for the recovery of backlog of stamp duties owed to Anambra State government.

ANN reports that the lawmakers at their plenary recently also authorized and supported the netting off of Anambra State government’s domestic debt liabilities of the federal government from the outstanding sixty percent refunds due to the states from the reconciliation of unauthorized debt/withdrawals in the Excess Crude Account (ECA), Petroleum Profit Tax (PPA) and Royalties account of the federation.

The legislators urged the state government to join other thirty-five states to pursue the recovery of unauthorized withdrawals from federal government account.

Chairman, House committee on finance and appropriation, Rt. Hon. Obinna Emeneka during the presentation and consideration of report, explained in details the need for the request to be granted and also recommended the approval which was supported by his colleagues. 

Emeneka revealed that after the meeting by the committee with the commissioner for finance, Anambra State, they were convinced and satisfied with her explanations.

ANN recalls that Anambra Speaker Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor during Tuesday plenary, read the letter by Governor Soludo requesting the lawmakers’ authorization.

Speaking with correspondents after plenary, Hon. Obinna Emeneka stated that the move was necessary considering the fact that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is working and needs funds to fulfil its campaign promises.
