The Anambra State Chapter of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has called for support and donations from the government of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the private sector to operate more effectively and efficiently.
ANN reports that the organization’s chairman, Professor Peter Katchy while speaking at the Headquarters in Amawbia-Awka, emphasized the society’s commitment to saving lives during emergencies through intervention measures, disaster preparedness, and mitigation, as well as rapid response to the most vulnerable populations.

Katchy listed several emergency situations where the society could provide assistance, including vehicular accidents, fire and flood disasters, communal and religious conflicts, political violence, kidnap trauma, epidemic disease outbreaks, internal displacements, and herdsmen invasions.

Prof. Katchy, while lamenting over the challenges facing the organization in Anambra State, stated that a severe shortage of life-saving equipment, vehicles, and drugs necessary for responding to emergencies as the first responder is their challenge.
He urged Nigerians to participate in efforts to restore peace, stability, and progress in the country. He called on the federal government to establish a Federal Ministry of National Reconciliation, which would promote peaceful co-existence, national rebirth, values, and patriotism.
