Rivers State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared it will cooperate with Governor Siminalayi Fubara upon his reinstatement on September 18 — while still reserving the right to criticize his administration when needed.
APC state chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, emphasized that the party will support Fubara’s return but maintain independence in their role.
“We will work with him when he returns. However, that will not take away our right to criticize him when he does wrong,” Okocha told reporters in Port Harcourt.
Acknowledging the political backdrop, Okocha likened the recent local government elections to a dress rehearsal for the 2027 general polls. He revealed APC’s strategic decision to avoid comparatively weak strongholds when contesting, noting that the party “deliberately chose not to field candidates” in key PDP areas.
Okocha also credited the rising momentum of APC in Rivers State, where just two years ago the party was considered politically marginal. “In 2023, APC in Rivers State had no shoes. Now we are wearing psychedelic shoes,” he said. He wrapped up with a stinging rebuke of the opposition, arguing the PDP was crumbling under the weight of defections.
