Ronaldo Leaves Door Ajar On Portugal Future After “Last World Cup”

Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to confirm whether his appearance at the 2026 World Cup marked the end of his international career, saying he will take time to reflect with family.

Speaking after Portugal’s exit, the 41-year-old emphasised a measured approach to any decision. “I can’t confirm whether this was my last match for the national team or not,” he said. “I don’t make my decisions in the heat of the moment or based on emotions.”

Ronaldo highlighted his achievements with Portugal. “I’ve won three titles with Portugal. Before Cristiano, Portugal had won nothing,” he stated, referring to successes including the 2016 European Championship. He added that “Euro 2016 has the same dimension as a World Cup.”

Despite the disappointment of elimination, Ronaldo expressed satisfaction with his contribution. “I did my best… I leave with a clear conscience. Tomorrow will be a new day,” he said. “Tomorrow, I’ll wake up the way I woke up today: with a clear conscience.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner indicated he would now prioritise rest and family before making any announcement on his future with the national team.
