Former England captain Wayne Rooney says his wife Coleen saved him from the brink of death during his struggles with alcohol.
On the “Rio Ferdinand Presents” podcast, Rooney revealed: “I honestly believe if she weren’t there I’d be dead.” He credited Coleen with helping him manage his addiction and guiding him through his darkest moments.
The 39-year-old added that he regularly hid his heavy drinking in his playing days—using eye drops, chewing gum, and more to mask the effects before training.
He also admitted he often drank for two continuous days before returning to professional life and performance, underscoring how deeply the habit had gripped him.
