Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of continuing its assault on Ukraine, with the latest attack targeting the country’s energy infrastructure.
This is coming amid “efforts” by United States president, Donald Trump, to seek a peace deal between the two warring countries after a stormy meeting with Zelenskyy at the White House.
“Last night, the Russian army carried out another massive attack on our energy infrastructure. Various facilities were targeted in several regions, including Odesa, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Ternopil,” Zelenskyy stated.
According to reports, Russia launched nearly 70 missiles — both cruise and ballistic —along with almost 200 attack drones.
“All of this was directed against infrastructure that ensures normal life,” he added.
Repair and restoration work is currently underway. However, residential buildings have also been affected.
“In Kharkiv, a Russian missile struck near an apartment building, injuring several people. They are receiving the necessary medical assistance,” Zelenskyy confirmed.
He also highlighted Ukraine’s air defences, stating that F-16 fighter jets and Mirage aircraft provided by France played a role in intercepting Russian cruise missiles.
“Today, F-16s and Mirages successfully protected our skies. I want to recognise the outstanding performance of our anti-aircraft missile forces, army aviation, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. Thank you.”
Zelenskyy reiterated that true peace can only be achieved by stopping Russia’s attacks.
“The first steps toward real peace must include forcing the sole source of this war —Russia — to cease its attacks on life. This can and must be effectively monitored.”
He emphasised the need for “silence in the skies” by banning the use of missiles, long-range drones, and aerial bombs, as well as ensuring “silence at sea” for safe navigation.
“Ukraine is ready to pursue the path to peace. From the very first second of this war, Ukraine has sought peace. The task is to force Russia to stop the war,” he stated.
The latest attack comes amid growing calls for an end to the war and a halt to casualties on both sides.
Earlier, Zelenskyy reported that a Russian ballistic missile struck a hotel housing guests from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. Among them were volunteers from a humanitarian organization, including U.S. and U.K. citizens.
“They survived because they managed to get down from their rooms in time,” he said.
However, four people lost their lives in the attack.
“Unfortunately, four people were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones.”
More than 30 people sustained injuries and have received medical care. Several surrounding civilian buildings were also damaged.
“Rescue workers remain on-site, and all emergency services continue their operations,” Zelenskyy noted.
He expressed gratitude to emergency responders, stating, “I thank everyone working tirelessly to save lives—State Emergency Service personnel, the National Police, medical workers, and all emergency responders.”
