On Monday, a sizable number of Labour Party (LP) members in the South West tore up their membership cards and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to support Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election on February 25.
This occurs shortly after Tinubu and Bashir, the Labour Party candidate for governor of Kano, met in Abuja.
The tsunami of desertion struck Obi just 48 hours after he finished his 36-state political campaign tour in Lagos over the weekend.

Their defection into the APC was facilitated by the National Chairman of the South West Agenda For Asiwaju Tinubu (SWAGA) 2023, Dr. Dayo Adeyeye, and other members of the support group.
Speaking at the ongoing event, Omotosho said that leaders and members of the LP in the Southwest have decided to quit the party as it was not a viable political platform to win the 2023 elections.
He specifically knocked Obi’s chances, noting that the LP presidential candidate ‘cannot win the February poll’.
