The Managing Director of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Mmaduekwe has warned those who built or are still planing to build on water-ways to have re-think, stating that the state can not afford the type of calamity that is been predicte this reaning season.
Barr. Mmaduekwe while brinfing Anambra assembly correspondents after appearing before the house committee on public account, revealed that anyone trying to put the lifes of ndi Anambra in denger will face the law.
“Whenever we see of hear people doing what was said they should not do, like building on water ways, it doesnt matter who you are, we will bring the building down so as to save the lifes of ndi Anambra who government has come to defend.
“Government came to protect and defend the intreast of the larger number and not few or rich individuals.
” We appeal to ndi Anambra, some of who has become use to impunity, those who think they are big men and must do what they like, the government of Chukwuma Soludo has zero tolorance for impunity. He does not spare anybody who disobeys the law.
” All drainage are been worked on so that water can flow easily. We have become more intolerant with those building on water ways.
“If you build on any water ways, we give you notice, bring it down and charge you to court”.
Speaking on flooding, Mmaduekwe revealed that
its a multi-agent responsiblity and since Governor Chukwuma Soludo came, their have been a very good collaboration and internal cohesion between the local government, physical planning, environment amongst others.
” This month August, there will be alot of flooding. The rain is beginning to fall on a daily basis and we are being proactive”.
