Governor Chukwuma Soludo has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) pledging to provide necessary assistance to enable the Corps to effectively fulfill its statutory mandate of protecting Critical National Assets and infrastructure.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
Prof. Soludo, stated this when he received Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of NSCDC alongside other very senior officers at the Governor’s Lodge, Light House Awka.
During the visit, the Governor acknowledged the pivotal role of NSCDC in the state, particularly in the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) and clearance operations. These efforts, he noted, have been instrumental in reclaiming and restoring peace and security to isolated locations and towns previously held by secessionist groups.
“It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Lighthouse. We are in the midst of preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial election, which is just about four weeks away, and I know the Civil Defence, as one of the critical stakeholders in the election, will deliver the best when the time comes.
” I would also like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for the commendable work they are doing, particularly in these challenging times and complex security architecture we find ourselves in our country” he said.
The Governor expressed his confidence in the Commandant General’s leadership capacity, commending him for the notable achievements recorded by the Corps since its establishment and called for more funding for the NSCDC .
“I am a strong advocate for adequate funding of security agencies. When this is not done, it is crucial to identify those responsible. That is why I have been pushing for the Federal Government to alleviate the burden of State governments funding federal security agencies, enabling them to effectively deliver on the security expectations of Nigerians” he concluded.
Governor Soludo underscored the importance of continuous training and retraining of NSCDC operatives to enhance their operational capabilities, enabling them to effectively address emerging security challenges, particularly those related to the protection of Critical National Assets.
Earlier, Prof. Audi, commended the State government for its proactive measures in providing a secure environment for Anambra residents. He also requested logistics support from the state government to enhance the Corps’ operational readiness to tackle potential security threats.
“I would like to express my gratitude to His Excellency for the warm reception. My visit has three purposes. Firstly, I came to pay homage to the Governor and notify him of my presence in the state.
” Secondly, I wish to thank the Governor for the support his administration has been giving to the Corps. Lastly, I am honoured to invite the Governor to my Strategic Security Lecture on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Auditorium in Awka, which will focus on the role of Artificial Intelligence in protecting Critical National Assets.
“Permit me to highlight that the NSCDC is a grassroots security agency, tasked with protecting the nation’s critical assets and infrastructure from vandalism. We remain resolute in delivering on this mandate and providing quality service for Nigerians, particularly the people of Anambra,” Prof. Audi stated.
