Governor Chukwuma Soludo has extended his condolences over the death of late Rt. Hon. Agunwa Anaekwe, a former Speaker. House of Representatives.
In his remarks, Prof. Soludo at the burial mass for the late Anaekwe at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Adazi-Ani, emphasized on the importance of celebrating people’s legacies while they are still alive.
The Governor maintained that it is not how long lived but how well, reflecting on the impact the late Anaekwe made during his life and political career.
Accompanied by his wife Nonye, Governor Soludo while advocating for a culture of appreciation that emphasizes the value of living legacies, referenced Anambra’s burial law, which encourages the celebration of individuals for their contributions during their lifetimes; rather than solely in death.
Earlier, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, stated that in the race of conquering the world as God commanded, Christians should he mindful of the end, admonishing politicians that their work is service to the people.
Senator Osita Izunaso who represented the Senate President, Senator Goodwill Akpabio, said the late Anekwe was a national asset, discharged his duties creditably and distinguished himself in commitment to national building, while the Senator representing Anambra Central at the National Assembly, Chief Victor Umeh, thanked attendees and expressed pride that the late Hon. Anekwe was truly a respected man.
Angel Network News (ANN) recalled that a valedictory session was held in honor of the former federal lawmaker at plenary, presided by Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze.
In his tribute, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze described the late Anekwe as petrotic statesman who upheld the principles of democracy and good governance.
Late Anekwe was the Speaker of House of reps from 1992-1993 and was celebrated for his remacable contribution to legislative development and national unity.
ANN gathered that late 69 years old Anaekwe was born on April 27, 1956 in Port Harcourt and passed away on July 5th 2025 in Abuja.
