and model of structures that will be replicated across Anambra cities, to permanently solve the street trading problem.

While commending the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Mr Ossy Onuko through whom the project was birthed, Governor Soludo, revealed that the Ọdụ Igbo market, Onitsha, among other are being built into a convenient shopping arena.

In an interview with journalists, the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Ossy Onuko said the project ties into the vision of Governor Soludo’s administration to build well planned towns, cities and markets, pledging that the state government will continue to do people-oriented projects, touching and changing lives and called on the beneficiaries to safe-guard the project.

In his words “This project is keeping to the slogan and mantra of APGA which is ‘being your brother’s keeping’.

” This is a clear testament and the compasionate heart of the Solution government.

” What we have here is open shops which is an ulternative to those who have turn our streets and walk-ways to trading corridor.

“This administration is consciously and deliberately transforming the capital city to world-class and in doing that, we cannot afford to have our walk-ways taking over by uncoordinated form of marketing.

” We are taking them off the street and giving them an ulternative. Mr. Governor understands the hardship the people are passing through and how weak the purchasing power is now and it is in that spirit that he initiated and approved this project.

” This is a model that will be replicated in not just Awka but also in Onitsha, Nnewi and Ekwulobia.

“We have more than fourty shops here and the shops was giving free to this persons because they cannot afford one.

“The criteria for selection is based on those sacked as a result of the end to street trading in the state, who applied.

” A management team has been constituted headed by a priest who will be in charge of the maintenance of this arena”. Onuko said.
