A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has said the only way to achieve national unity is for the South-East region to be allowed to hold the presidency this time.
Speaking in an interview aired on the Naija Unfiltered platform, the elder statesman declared that people from the South-East should be given the opportunity to exercise power.
“The only way to unite this country is to allow people from the South-East to taste power this time,” Galadima said. He added that he was prepared to support and campaign for such a position on any platform, describing it as the right course for the country.
Galadima, who is aligned with the NDC’s Obi-Kwankwaso ticket for the 2027 presidential election, made the comments while discussing political developments ahead of the polls. He has previously argued that the party ticket represents a “healing” option for Nigeria.
The statement comes amid ongoing debates over power rotation and zoning between Nigeria’s regions ahead of the next general election.
