Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore made an emotional visit to detained Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, offering a message of hope amid Kanu’s ongoing trial.
In a widely shared video, Sowore embraced Kanu and said: “Mazi, you will be out!” to which Kanu responded with a smile and a firm handshake, adding: “Good to see you.”
The encounter comes days after Sowore led protests in Abuja demanding Kanu’s release, aligning with calls from rights groups accusing the government of neglecting court orders in Kanu’s case.
Kanu, who has been in custody since his re-arrest in 2021 on charges including treasonable felony and incitement, recently dismissed his legal team to represent himself in court.
The exchange between the two activists has reignited attention on Kanu’s protracted detention and raised renewed debate over fair trials, political dissent, and judicial independence in Nigeria.
