Stakeholders Commend Anambra Govt For Peace Efforts In Eziowelle Community

The National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barr. Titus Akpudo, has commended the Commissioner for Local Governments, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. TonyCollins Nwabunwanne for delivering
for his intervention In Eziowelle Community.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the commendations are coming in reaction to a recent publication by some people of Eziowelle where they accused Nwabunwanne of bias in handling the affairs of the community, especially with regards to the town union election of the community scheduled to hold on the 29th of June, 2024.

Akpudo, who is also the President General of Eziowelle Improvement Union, EIU, explained that government has made enormous sacrifices to ensure that various factions in the community find a common ground to ensure peaceful conduct of the election on the scheduled date.

He stated that despite these efforts, some people demonstrated unwillingness to give peace a chance in the community, but insisting that the town union election that will usher in new leadership in Eziowelle must hold; as government and majority of his people have given support.

Contributing, the Chairman of Eziowelle Improvement Union, EIU, Port Harcourt Branch, Chief Nnamdi Akukwe, accused those ‘fighting’ their PG, of not being interested in the amendment of the town’s constitution or putting it to use, as they claim, but are interested hijacking its leadership for selfish purposes.

Speaking after a second meeting stakeholders in Eziowelle community had with Mr Nwabubwanne, Chief Akukwe said the state government has been magnanimous enough to have accommodated all interests in finding the way out of the quagmire.

He, however, regretted that those accusing the Commissioner of bias would not disagree with any decisions reached at the meetings, but would change the narrative and start peddling lies after their sponsors must have spoken and influenced them.

On alleged flaws in the amendment of the 1992 constitution of EIU that birthed the 2020 edition, Chief Akukwe recalled that after the ‘troublemakers’ were floored in the election that produced Akpudo for the second time, they decided to be boycotting the town union’s meeting and also refused to make inputs in the constitution’s amendment process, wondering if running the affairs of the community would have been put on hold because of selfish interests of few individuals.

He described Barrister Akpudo as a man of wisdom; restraint in exercising powers, and one that has performed well in office as PG of Eziowelle community, calling on the troublemakers to allow him organise the scheduled election and leave office.

Contributing, the Palace Secretary of the community, Chief Jerry Anyaegbu, and Youth leader of Eziowelle community
wondered why few people from three branches have decided not to give peace a chance in the community by working against the collective interest of their people as regards.

The youth leader specifically advised youths and members of the community to remain peaceful in conduct as Eziowelle is known for, saying that the town union election will hold as scheduled.
