Student Uprising: Ibadan’s EFCC Office Flooded Amidst Colleague Arrests

About 200 students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife, Osun State and leaders of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), yesterday, stormed the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The students, who arrived in three Coaster buses and three Hummer buses, were said to have visited the EFCC to secure the release of about 72 students of the University arrested by the operatives of the commission.

It was gathered that some operatives of the EFCC allegedly raided two hostels in Oduduwa Estate around 2a.m., yesterday.

No fewer than 70 students were said to have been arrested during the operation and taken to the Zonal Command, Iyaganku, in Ibadan.

They claimed six medical students were among the arrested students.

A student, who narrated the incident to journalists, accused EFCC operatives of damaging the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras stationed in the facility before carrying out the operation.

It was gathered that gunshots were heard as soon as the students arrived at the Commission’s office.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has berated the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, warning the agency to stop harassing students and go after corrupt politicians and others looting the country.

The South West (Zone D) Coordinator of NANS, John Alao, gave the warning while speaking with The Guardian in Ibadan.
