Super Falcons Thrash Egypt To Reach WAFCON Quarter-finals

Super Falcons crushed Egypt 6-2 on Wednesday to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The victory at Stade Larbi Zaouli completed a strong recovery for the nine-time champions after an opening loss to Malawi and a subsequent win over Zambia.

Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute. Substitute Gift Monday added a second just before half-time, only for Nadine Ghazi to pull one back from the spot in stoppage time, leaving the score 2-1 at the break.

Uchenna Kanu restored the two-goal cushion early in the second half. Christy Ucheibe converted another penalty in the 81st minute before Ghazi replied again for Egypt. Rashidat Ajibade then scored from the spot in added time, and Joy Omewa completed the rout with a late sixth goal.

Nigeria controlled possession throughout and created repeated chances, while Egypt relied mainly on set-pieces. The result keeps the Super Falcons firmly in contention at the continental tournament as they play heavyweights Cameroon next.
