Suspected Bandits Kills Police Boss in Delta State

About eight suspected armed bandits have reportedly killed a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Sunday Okoebor, in the early hours of yesterday in Koka area of Asaba, Delta State.

The Chief of Staff, 63 brigade headquarters, Asaba, Col. Ibrahim Gambari, confirmed the killing while parading about 125 suspected hoodlums before newsmen in Asaba.

Gambari said there was exchanged of gun fire between the police/operations Delta Hawk and the suspected bandits, which resulted into the killing of two suspects while two others escaped with gun wounds. He said ‘Operations Still Water’ was drafted to the scene of the incident following information received from the victims.

“At about 3a.m., we received information that criminals are operating at Koka junction. So getting there, our troop and Delta Hawk moved to the area and on getting there, we have an encounter with the criminals.

“Two of them were shot and they had already killed DSP, Sunday Okoebor, attached to the Delta State Police command. While others escaped with pump action. Then, six of them were arrested with a pistol. Later we raided the area and arrested 125, out of which their victims identified eight as criminals terrorising the area.”

The suspects have been handed over to the police for prosecution.
