Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) South East Zone has received with profound sadness and shock the news of the passing of Mr. Tonnex Chukwu, the respected former Media Director of Enyimba International FC, who died following an auto crash.
SWAN in a press release signed by Ikemefuna Asika (Vice President, South East Zone) and Kennedy Onwunali (Zonal Secretary), described late Chukwu as a consummate professional whose dedication, integrity, and passion for sports journalism distinguished him as one of the finest in the industry.
Part of the release reads: “His remarkable service to Enyimba International FC, Heartland FC and his immense contributions to the growth of media coverage in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and continental competitions under Confederation of African Football (CAF) earned him admiration from colleagues, administrators, players and fans across the country.
“South East SWAN stands in solidarity with the Chukwu family in this moment of deep loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and all who were touched by his humility, warmth and exemplary professionalism.
“His voice, storytelling and unwavering commitment enriched football reportage in Nigeria, making Mr. Chukwu not just a pillar of sports journalism but a respected figure whose influence cut across regional lines and traditions.
“The passion and care he brought to every assignment he undertook remain indelible.
“As the sports community mourns, we honour the life and legacy of a dedicated media ambassador Nze Tonnex Chukwu whose contributions will continue to inspire sports journalists for years to come.
